Aardvarck

Aardvarck is one of Holland’s best kept secrets. As a member of the Music for Speakers collective, he’s released a number of ep’s on that label that gained him notoriety for his absolutely unique broken beats style, while remaining the feel of techno. Aardvarck, originally from the south of Holland, released his first ep in 1991 on the then new Djax-Up-Beats, and organized parties there. In 1995 he moved to Amsterdam and became one of the names behind the legendary Vrieshuis squat. His recording output resurfaced in the late 90′s when Amsterdam’s Rush Hour shop/ distributor picked up the Music for Speakers label. From then it’s gone quick: Aardvarck’s tracks are favored by dj’s like Carl Craig, Moodymann and Theo Parrish, and they frequently play his tracks in their sets. This year saw Aardvarck, who normally only dj’s, also do his first live performance of his tracks. Part 3 of the Cult Copy series was released in 2005. He is also a member of the Relaxo Abstracto group together with his Music for Speakers colleagues like the Caron brothers David and Sandor, and of the dj/producers collective Red Nose district, whose Gotta make a move was a very successful track in 2003.

Carl Craig

Carl Craig is a Detroit-based producer of techno music, and is considered to be one of the most important names, in the Detroit second generation of techno producers and DJs. Carl Craig has approached techno using inspiration from a wide range of musical genres, including jazz and soul.
Carl Craig has released many successful albums under a large number of aliases, such as BFC, Psyche, Paperclip People, 69, Designer Music and Innerzone Orchestra. Using one alias, Innerzone Orchestra, he released his perhaps most well known track “Bug in The Bassbin” in 1992, a track that many regard as being a key influence in the then evolving sound of drum and bass.
Carl Craig has also created his own record label called “Planet E”, which apart from his own work, has released records by well known techno and house artists like Kevin Saunderson, Alton Miller and Moodymann.
Craig served as artistic director for the widely successful Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 and 2001.
Part of what makes Craig’s style so unique and separates him from much of the normal “Detroit Techno” sound, including current works, are his remixes of world beat and jazz songs. This has helped spark a new movement of electronic music.
