SAVE THE PARADE 2009!!! LUXEMBOURG

YOUR MUSIC NEEDS YOU AND THE TIME IS NOW!

After months of preparation, organising, setting up a website, starting early promotion, the news dropped like a bomb.

The steel parade 2009 has been cancelled. (article from wort.lu in german)

According to the wort.lu article this is due to a lack of sponsors, thus no dancing in the streets on July 11th. As of today the event is still stated on the ECTO site. (Take a look at the right column near the bottom under EVENTS. )

It is hard to understand why such an ambitious event which is was also supposed to strengthen Esch’s visibility in the Greater Region as e key player in culture and education can be cancelled less than a month before its date. We wonder if lack of professionalism money is REALLY the problem or if there are “higher reasons” involved. It is bewildering to find out that budget cuts (referring to the wort.lu article) hit an event which was slated to be the highlight of the year. We hope that Esch’s Saint Nicholaus Day won’t have to be cancelled this year due to cutbacks or lack of sponsors…

Coordinated by ODD a movement has been started in order to save the parade 2009 which has already gained international support.

Some sites already spread the news as well as Radio Luxembourg reporting on it in their evening news (radio around 6:00 min) and we are sure that more will follow.

The word is spreading like a fire, with a strong Facebook group which is growing at an impressive rate on the heels of the news.

And this movement needs you. How can you contribute?

  • Join the Facebook group and invite your friends to join too.
  • Make a post about this on your website or other personal space.
  • Use the picture below as your avatar anywhere on the web.
  • Why not use your freedom of speech and make your voice heard. Write a en email to the ECTO and tell them how you feel about this. Remember to be nice, it is unlikely that the person who gets the mail is responsible for all this! :-)

Hopefully we’ll meet you on July 11, 2009 in the streets of Esch. :-D
